Being a black belt in taekwondo has helped me become more fearless ... It is a great discipline for my body and mind. It has impressed upon me the idea that success is in my control.
Ardel Friedman, CEO Nasdaq
The Martial Way is run by a husband-wife team; one born and raised in South Korea and the other here in America. Two very different cultures coming together, they symbolize balance. And after 25 years, they also have three black belt children, ages 24, 20, and 13, who are an integral part of the business as well. Together, they strive to help their family and their students live a balanced life.
Grandmaster Jung Yul Lee has studied the Korean martial arts and healing techniques for over 50 years. He understands the body like few others. Master Jodi Harrison-Lee studied psychology and communication, earning a Master's degree in special education. She has been training in martial arts for over 25 years; a US Open gold medalist. Their adult children began at age four. Together, the Lee family has well over 100 years of martial arts experience.
There are so many benefits to be gained by training at The Martial Way, it's hard to know where to start. But it all comes down to character development. Traits like respect, focus, discipline, perseverance, and indomitable spirit are top of the list. But the ultimate goal is to help our students become strong inside and out. And to build the true confidence necessary to live a safe, happy and successful life.
One of our basic human needs is a sense of belonging. At The Martial Way, we take this need seriously by stressing the importance of courtesy and friendship. We have a common interest, so we help each other, and cheer each other on. Because, yes, sometimes it is difficult. We are very proud of the community we have created.
At The Martial Way, we teach the Korean styles of Taekwondo and Hapkido to students of all ages. Our martial arts program is belt driven with the big goal being to persevere until you earn your black belt. But really, black belt is just the beginning.
We also teach a Strength & Flexibility class that is not belt driven. And we have periodic Self-Defense and Empowerment workshops for teen girls. Our classes are outlined below.
Little Warriors 4-6: Forty-minute classes that teach our youngest students how to follow instructions while learning basic taekwondo skills and agility drills. Our focus is on courtesy AND self-confidence.
Children's Taekwondo 6-12: Hour-long classes where students learn the taekwondo skills that correlate to their belt level. Punching, kicking and blocking techniques, along with forms, rolling, and falling are taught. Students spar once a week beginning at yellow belt. We offer a morning class as another option for homeschooled children. Once students reach black belt, they get to learn weapons and hapkido. Our focus is on building strength, good character and true confidence.
Just like our younger students, teens and adults learn punching, kicking and blocking techniques, along with forms, rolling, and falling. We also do light sparring drills once a week. The main difference is that our teens and adults learn hapkido as well as taekwondo. These skills are more practical in real-life self-defense. Our focus? Well, we may be older, but we can always use a little more strength, character, and confidence-building.
As for teen-agers, this is a critical time in their lives, so we want to give them the internal strength to stand up for themselves and their beliefs. And we want to reduce the likelihood of them ever becoming a target of abuse of any kind.
Every summer, Master Jodi Harrison-Lee teaches two 3-day workshops to help empower young women before they go off to college or otherwise out on their own. The program is based on her best-selling book "Find Your Strength: The secret to being safe, strong, and able to defend yourself." If you are interested, her book can be purchased on Amazon at:
Master Lee can be booked for private events as well and tailor-makes her talks and/or workshops for parents, women, middle schoolers, and high schoolers. If you are interested, you can email Master Lee at: jodi@find-your-strength.com.

"I trained at The Martial Way for over 5 years and I loved it. What really makes this place special is the community that it fosters. It is a supportive and caring community that is simultaneously committed to the quality of its students. Grandmaster and Master Lee not only focus on training your physical body but also teaching good character and mental strength as well. If you are serious about getting in shape or learning to defend yourself this place will not disappoint you."

"We tried a couple of different places, and this has been our favorite. Very impressed with the instruction, and not just the time on the mat. The Lee Family encourages the students to apply the lessons to the lives they lead outside of the studio. Highly recommended!"

Father of a 10yr old, yellow belt student
"The Martial Way is the best place to be. I trained here for 13 years, beginning at age 5. It was my second home. This studio shaped me into the confident and strong young lady that I am today. Master Lee and Grandmaster Lee are both amazing martial artists with big hearts and the desire for everyone to succeed in life through martial arts. The Martial Way teaches you confidence, respect, and promotes good morals while teaching you how to protect yourself (self-defense)!
I personally love this place, and I would encourage anyone who is curious to just try it out and fall in love with the community and discipline it provides. Plus its a good workout!"
